PlayStation will pursue a multi-platform strategy

Sony, which for years preferred to offer games exclusively on its own hardware under the PlayStation brand, is now preparing to bring them to various platforms. A new job posting published by PlayStation Studios has formalized the company’s shift in strategy. The opening is called “Senior Director of Multi-Platform and Account Management,” and the job description states that it will bring PlayStation games to other digital platforms.

The wording used in the company’s official job posting points directly to a global commercial strategy, not just a temporary experiment or limited partnership. It clearly emphasizes that PlayStation Studios software will extend beyond PlayStation hardware.

The person who will assume this position will manage commercial relationships with all digital platforms, especially Xbox and PC, coordinate sales teams in these areas, and manage medium-term planning.

Behind this shift lies the fundamental dynamic shifts that have occurred in the video game industry in recent years. Games that were previously only playable on a specific console increased platform dependency among players and also meant a forced transition to different subscription systems.

Sony’s first concrete step in this direction came with the release of Helldivers 2 on the Xbox platform. Now, this approach is no longer an isolated example but a systematic strategy. This marks the end of the era where titles promoted with “exclusive” labels remain platform-exclusive.

Sony’s decision to collaborate with rivals like Microsoft, Steam, and Nintendo is also shaping the overall direction of the industry. Hardware-centric competition is beginning to give way to software and accessibility. Users will no longer be tied to a single device to play a game; a more flexible, cross-platform gaming world is taking shape.
